Tuesday, May 05, 2009 @ Dear juniors
i wonder who will be reading this post, but anyway.
tmr's your big day and as much as you are looking forward to the day, you must be feeling anxious at the same time. it's okay to be worried; your anxiety is due to the uncertainty that lies ahead of you. but it is completely unnecessary, for the very fact that you cant control the future.
i believe you have been working very hard over the past few months to perfect the pieces which you guys will be showcasing tmr. i quote what 魏老师 said to us 4 years ago, "做人要谦虚,在台上要好练." 把其他琐碎的事情抛到九霄云外,尽情地演奏,尽情地享受你们所奏的旋律,尽请地玩乐吧!
we have have created legacies over the past decade, from 红旗渠 and 飞天 to 冬, and recently from 梦蝶 to 大地回春. and i know that your batch will create a legacy too.
have faith in yourselves cus we have faith in you. may the force be with you, and all the best for tomorrow.

Monday, May 04, 2009 @ 6 - 5 = 1
5 mods down, last one to go, heck if i screwed them up ornot cus there's no point in fretting and worrying over the papers that have been handed in already.
went back to HC after physical chem. apparently the ancient grand juniors (whateverr you call them, fine i am old) are having their syf on 6 may and last sat was the last weekend rehearsal that they had. a couple of us went down and i shld say apart from the teachers-in-charge me and enoch were the oldest there.
as i told enoch and jaime, it always feels good to return to your alma mater everytime, and it feels great when it's HC. the cosy feeling comes back and floods my mind and body whenever i walk across the central plaza, to the left wing where we held our daily chapteh and bridge sessions, to the tutorial rooms and all. sadly LT3 is no longer used for CO practices as the venue has been shifted to MPH (over at the high school side).
so anyway we were there the entire afternoon staring and listening to the great grand juniors perform. i could vividly remember the moment when we were playing mengdie and the grand seniors were up there in the audience seat listening to us and analysing our peformance. time has passed, 4 years have come and gone and now instead of the peformer, i am one of those grand seniors giving the juniors my two cents' worth. during the break, i went up to the audi stage to take a look at these grand juniors.
oh my, i realised how much i have aged.
岁月不留人.
so old.. so oldddddddddd (well of course i am still so young as compared to 魏老)
okie, enough of ranting. gonna tackle oceans!

Sunday, March 08, 2009 @ 三月天:境
in my opinion this was much better than last year, at least nothing emo or dramatic happened and the concert went on smoothly until the end.
of course there are some obvious problems that can be heard in the orchestra.. like the leaking sound when the 口笛 was played during 飞天 and the 木鱼 that sounded like some dunno what thing. but overall it was not bad. and of course, me and zhiyong were reminiscing the good old memories of playing 飞天. speaking of which, we have played this song like N times since our chinese high days.. at least for 2 concerts bah. and we decided that a player is unable to play the same song for too many times. otherwise we will become numb to the song and will be unable to inject our 感觉 into the songs. ha!
the highlight of the concert was of course 黄河. the pianist is scary. just look at his magic pair of hands, his fingers that make wonders. and the closeup of his hands just made the audience go WOOAHHHHHHHHH. i think that was the only time where the visual effects were made to good use. for the other songs, i think the video had totally no link to the songs and in fact these videos distracted us from enjoying the pieces :( ok back to 黄河. the pianist simply overshadowed the entire orchestra. so much so that when he stopped playing (during a couple of parts in the song), one can actually realise the sudden drop in strength and depth of the song. haha.
this concert was also a chance for a few of us to catch up. saw some of our juniors, like bong, wenxi, shouhao, samuel, zhiguang and co. and also those who were performing, like enoch, jaime, sinhwee, chris, qiquan, and songsim. and of course some of the 老人 gang, like me, zhiyong, tsin li, karin, nat, kaixian and hoohoo (who was helping with stage). it felt like it was good old times back again in sec school and JC, immersing ourselves in the melodious songs. sweet memories.
我总算遇到了我的心结。
我希望我已克服了这个心结。
perhaps NUSCO is a probably next sem after overcoming this major obstacle? i dont know.

Sunday, January 04, 2009 @ my hair is turning green!
damn i shouldn't have highlighted my hair blue. now that the blue is fading my hair's turning green. looks like some xmas tree now. gahh. shall go and cut my hair/dye it black/wait for the the blue to fade or something. otherwise i look pretty freaky.
anyway, this was a pretty last minute thing; i received a pm from owsongsim while i was bathing that there was alumnico prac last sat. so i decided to just go there and take a look at the juniors with enoch (at least i wasnt alone). and chinese high changed so much! now there's this another statue outside kongchian hall. and kongchian hall is now the admin area, no more ep3 block. things really change so much. and now that there are 2 statues, there are bound to be ghost stories that will involve both tkk and lkc... probably tkk asking lkc what time it is in hokkien cus tkk didnt bring watch or something.. ha!
the practice was ok. i was there for only 1 hr, didnt have the intention to play anyway. and i didnt really see much from our batch. cant be helped. everyone's everywhere all over the world, in UK and US. only a few of us left in singapore. the main bulk's the 06 and 07 batch. after prac, wait for the exco after they had some meeting with the alumni. then we went over to eason and karlheng to look for sponsors.
it has certainly been a while since i have gotten so close to chinese music. the concert sounds intersting. it's a pity that i know i cant commit fully. i hope that there's a chuida item, which seems like the only item that i can actually participate in.. hai.

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 @ teh tarik!
i finally met up with daniel and hansheng who are currently having their summer hols. daniel's back from uk and hansheng's back from canada! finally a chance for a reunion.. for the 3 pple who were caught playing snake during dazu when we were in chinese high.
it was just a simple lunch at casaurina roti prata. the food was great and so were the company. it was a relaxed lunch; we ate, we talked and we ate somemore and we waited for hansheng to finish his food (like what's new.. he always eats the slowest since i've known him when i was in sec 1). i ate a small mutton-chicken murtabak and a cheese roti prata. and i was so confused about their conception of a SMALL murtabak.. it was bigger than an A4 size paper! and the cheese prata was almost the size of an A4 size paper. imagine how full i was after the meal.
but still, the lunch was great! we talked about chuhe, chuhe and more chuhe.. hha more like we were bitching about him OOPS XP and also about our army life. hai what can 3 guys talk about lol. we left the place around 2+ as daniel had to send his friend off to the himalayas. cool stuff.. think his friend is going to climb the mountains there!
anyway.. i am very tired. i dunno why. i have been sleeping alot. perhaps it's because i sleep too much that's resulting in my being very tired. life has been pretty aimless so far. it's guitar youtube msn facebook (playing BIGGEST BRAINS and WORD CHALLENGE) eating and sleeping. i need a direction in my life. hope that going rag will make my life more interesting until SOW.
that's all. DEEPEE this post is for you. i am going off to jog. dont stay in the office too late.. remember to maintain your work life balance!

Tuesday, June 03, 2008 @ where's my malaysian durians?!?
desaru trip was quite an experience. and a getaway for me from all the hectic workload. although it was just a short 2d1n trip, it came at the right time.
highlight of day 1: fruit farm! i managed to go up close to the veggies that i only managed to see at the markets and supermarts. never did i know that mangosteens go on trees -.- oh no i am a suagu. super suagu in fact. let the photos do the talking!
the fruit farm.. selamat datang malaysia!
see? mangosteens go on trees

this is known as breadfruit. apparently it provides a good source to carbo and malays have used it to substitute potatoes in curry. the next alternative to rice?
spot the durian..

i want tongkat ali..
the brinjal
soursop. can you see it?
we went to check in at a beach resort. the facilities sucked. the heater wasnt working. but what hte heck, it was only for 2d1n. spent my dinner at some island eating good seafood :) and while the rest went to watch fireflies at night, our family decided to head back to the hotel and chill. played mahjong while watching channel U. yes.. they have channel u in the hotel. and apparently alot of malaysians watch sg channels.. cool.
a shot that i took of the beach early in the morning. i particularly like this photo. the sea is so clear and blue and you can see the sun's rays.
highlight of day 2: alligator farm. apparently they have alot of alligators. this is their so-called famous 135-yr-old alligator. apparently it seems like a fossil. lol
headed back to SG and reached mainlain at around 4. rushed and went for the co concert in the end. the concert was below expectations seriously. i expected better from the school that won honours for 2 consecutive syfs. but good job to songsim. and happy birthday to you if you see it.
